Reflux :(

Well, William is officially a reflux baby (he has GERD), just like Nolan was. :(  He spits up A LOT! It has been affecting his weight gain/growth, but it didn't seem to bother him too much until the last couple of weeks. This past weekend he was just miserable, arching his back and fussing while trying to nurse. Which made me feel so bad for him, and frustrated about the whole situation. I called the doctor's office Monday morning and spoke with a nurse, who spoke with our pedi about William. She prescribed Zantac and said that it should be immediately effective, but if it doesn't seem to help within a couple of days to call back and we'll try Prilosec.

The Zantac did help some, but it's not relieving all of his symptoms, the poor guy. So I called the doctor again today and she agreed to switch him to Prilosec (which is what worked for Nolan). When the boys wake up from their naps we'll go pick it up. I really hope that it works so that

a. William isn't in pain anymore
b. he starts nursing better
c. he starts gaining weight again

So keep your fingers crossed that it will help!

On a totally different note, Nolan is very happily sleeping in a "bed." We took down the front rail of his crib so he is now sleeping in a converted toddler bed. He is doing really well with it and is loving it! Although he has fallen out of bed the last few nights, but didn't wake up from it. Jason and I just pick him up and put him back in bed. The mattress is very close to the floor, and we put the changing table pad on the floor next to the crib, so he falls onto that. One of Nolan's new favorite things is to turn his sound machine on, lay in bed and cover himself with a blanket, and say, "night night me." He also says "shleep (sleep) me" and "more shleep". It's so cute!

Nolan also feels like a big boy because he now eats at the table with us in a booster seat. He is so thrilled about these new changes.

Nolan is 2!!!

We now have a 2 year old and a 2 month old! I can't believe it! Nolan had a very happy birthday last week, and a fantastic Sesame Street birthday party this past Saturday. On Nolan's birthday I made him cake batter pancakes (a billion calories, but so yummy!). We gave him a little gift that morning, a Mickey watch. Nolan is obsessed with Jason's watches! Then we went to my parents' house and had a mini celebration with my mom, Abigail, and Anika. Nolan got to blow out a candle on a cupcake and he opened a small gift - cookie cutters (for play-do) and a Vikings football, which he loved! That night Nolan got to open a few puzzles from Jason and me and then we sang to him and had more cake (see below). It was a very cake-filled day!

Saturday was Nolan's party, which went very well. Pictures are below. Nolan spent that majority of the first half of his party sitting at our bar and gazing at the cupcakes. He surprisingly didn't touch them! He also enjoyed running upstairs and grabbing handfuls of blueberries. Then came presents...Nolan was thrilled with his play kitchen (from Jason and me). He spent the majority of the second half of his party playing with his kitchen! He liked his Elmo cupcake and ice cream, but seemed a little overwhelmed with all the people singing to him. He was a very happy guy all day though.

Both boys went to the doctor today and both had to get shots, which was not fun. I've already given William some Tylenol. Nolan didn't want any. Nolan is still very tall, 36.5" (93%) and 31 lb (83%). William isn't as big as Nolan was at two months 23"(41%) and 11 lb 3 oz (18%). We're not sure if he's just going to be smaller, or if he is spitting up too much and isn't getting enough nourishment. We're going back in a month to check his weight, so hopefully he stays consistent or goes up in percentiles.

We need to keep working on tummy time with William. He is not liking it at all! His head is a little flat from his lack of tummy time, so we really need to push it. So hopefully in the next month or two he will gain weight and like tummy time more.

We didn't do too much for Halloween. We dressed Nolan up as a lion (it took A LOT of coaxing). William wore a pumpkin hat and a pumpkin sleep n play outfit. We didn't go out trick or treating, but probably will next year. There were barely any trick or treaters that came to our house, so we have a ton of extra candy. Nolan is enjoying that!

Warning: Photo overload!
Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Oscar were here!
